NEWS!! Another first!
In the Polish Speed Skating Championships "Puchar Polski"
held 2-3 December 2006, in Tomaszow Mazowiecki,

    Maciej Biega won
  • 1st place in the 500m
  • 6th place in the 3000m.
  • 6th place in the 1500m.
In an earlier match 18 and 19th November, Maciej won 1st place
in both the 500m. and the 3000m., and 5th in the 1500m.
NOTE:
Maciej was no longer skating as a Junior.


Maciej Biega The weekly newspaper of Sanok, south-eastern Poland, "Tygodnik Sanocki", reports in its 24 February, 2006, issue that Maciej Biega, of the Sanok Sport Club Górnik won first place in the 500m. and 1500m, and second place in the 3000m and 5000m. at the Speed Skating Junior Championships of Poland, held in Tomaszow Mazowiecki. On total points he became Poland's Junior Speed Skating Champion for 2006. In the photo he is shown with his trainer Mark Drwięga. He qualified for a place on Poland's team going to the World Junior Speed Skating Championships in Erfurt, Germany on March 11-12.

Congratulations - Maciej Biega!

In the girls' competition, Maciej's yonger sister Beata Biega, of the same club, gained 8th place, and her team mate Sylwia Pomykala 4th. place.

Sanok occupies a leading place in this sport. In the last Winter Olympics in Torino, Poland's best placer in speed skating was Katarzyna Wojcicka of Sanok, who turned in a great performance in Women's Speedskating 1000 meters. She had been in the lead through the first eight pairs, finally edged out by the Dutch, Canadian and German champions. She ended up in 8th place, only 1.23 seconds behind the Gold winner.

"Tygodnik Sanocki", donosi w swoim numerze 24-go lutego, że w Ogólnopolskiej Olimpiadzie Młodzieży i MP Juniorów w łyżwiarstwie szybkim w Tomaszowie Mazowieckim, Maciej Biega, z sanockiego klubu Górnik, wywalczył pierwsze miejsce w 500m. and 1500m, (czasy 39.13 na 500 m i 2:05.00 na 1500 m), ale na dłuższych dystansach (4:29.14 na 3000 m i 7:56.47 na 5000 m) ustępował tylko najgrożniejszemu rywalowi - Andrzej Gąsienica-Laskowym z AZS-u Zakopane. Ostatecznie panczenista Górnika wygrał wielobój z przewagą ponad 2 punktów, a bardzo dobre wyniki dały mu kwalifikacje na Mistrzostwa උwiata Juniorów (10-12 marca w Erfurcie).

Gratulacje dla Macieja Biegi!

Reprezentantkomi Górnika w wieloboju medalu się nie udało wywalczyć. Na 4. miejscu uplasowaLa się Sylwia Pomykała, a o 2 lata młodsza Beata Biega wywalczyła 6. pozycję.

Sanoczanka Katarzyna Wójcicka była najlepszą reprezantką Polski w łyżwiarstwie szybkim na Olympiadzie w Torino. Na 1000m prowadziła przez walkę pierwszych ośmiu par, potem dopiero uległa mistrzyniom z Niemiec, Kanady i wielokkrotnym medalistkom z Holandii.
